Charlie: Twelve Months

Some of the links below are affiliate links. Thank you for using them to support Southern & Style at no additional cost to you!

Weight:
Height:
Charlie will have his twelve-month well check later this month & I will update and reshape with his new stats; I can't wait to see how big our precious love is!
Y'all, I took this picture last Sunday & for some reason to me he just looked like such a BIG boy all day. He ate pizza like a big boy (& had the pizza stains to prove it!), was dressed like a big boy, and was talking up a storm in the stores like a big boy. He's so fun!
Clothes:
He is somewhere between 9-12 months in most of his clothes, although the 9 months are getting tight!
I've been buying 12-18 months for the cooler weather and he'll be in them soon enough.
Sleep:
He's a sleep champ!
I am so thrilled that he falls asleep somewhere between 7 and 7:30 PM and wakes up somewhere between 7-8 AM.
He is still taking two naps a day, but I think that will be changing sooner than later because he's getting a little bit too busy.
Schedule:
Charlie's schedule is still pretty much the same as last month, he wakes up between 7-8 and I go get him from his crib & bring him in bed to nurse him for a few minutes before we jump up and start our day.
After we go feed Minnie Pearl (our bottle calf!), we come back and he plays for a little bit while I fix breakfast and then after that he eats and then goes down for a nap.
After his nap he'll get up and nurse again, then play for a while (we may go outside or something fun), then he'll have lunch about 12:45 and then go down for a nap at 1:30 till about 3 PM. He'll have a sippy cup of breastmilk and after that, it's a day of just playing or going to the farm until it's time to feed Minnie Pearl, then come home and feed Charlie and bath, then one more nursing session, a book, and bed.
Health:
Charlie is still as healthy as a horse!
Crying:
We have seen the beginnings of tantrums this month & I dread it, but I know it stems a lot from not being able to communicate his feelings to us just yet.
He fusses mostly when he doesn't get to do things he wants (when he has to leave the farm, etc.) or when we need to change his diaper-he's not a fan of slowing down ever!
Likes:
Being outside (always)
Driving or Riding anything
Playing in the water (whether the bath or his pool)
Going out to different places, he loves to people watch
Raspberries, cotton candy grapes, chicken & dressing, and peanut butter toasts are some of his current favorite foods.
Dislikes:
Hearing other babies cry
Having to leave the farm
Struggling to learn something-he's so strong willed and determined, when he wants to learn how to do something, it frustrates him when he doesn't succeed right away, but he always keeps trying until he can do it!
Milestones:
Has stood solo a few times
Is now giving kisses (when he wants to)
Can drink out of a straw cup without handles
Is biting off foods instead of having to have his food cut into small pieces
Not a milestone; but a memory...when we took Charlie for his smash-cake pictures, he freaked out and started crying-needless to say, he overcame that fear later (check out the picture at the top!)
Meeting Coach Tubberville!
Places You've Gone:
Jacksonville & to Mamma Goldberg's-hopefully we'll get to take you to a game one day!
Clay County Cattlemen's Rodeo-your very first rodeo!
Your Aunt Trystan's & Cousin Cleo's baby shower
To Auburn for Homecoming & the Ag-Roundup Tailgate (to celebrate your & Daddy's birthdays) {Technically, this is happening today on the 14th, but I wanted to include it!}
Mama & Charlie's Favorites:
Carter's Two Piece Pajamas
I love footie pajamas on Charlie, don't get me wrong.
But the older he gets, the easier I find it to have these separates on him and plus, they are just so sweet!
This striped set is currently on sale for just $10 and I adore the neutral gray, but they come in several other colors/patterns.
Custom Embroidered T-Shirt
This is a custom tee I had done by a local girl, she does all of Charlie's custom pieces (this was one for our aquarium trip!)
She has a website now, so you can purchase from her there & you should, because her work is impeccable!
Even Superheroes Have to Sleep
This book was a gift from a sweet friend's Mama & hands down-it's one of my all time favorite children's books for sure.
It's so funny and I love the colorful illustrations.
I think it'll be a fun book for Charlie to read for years to come & I think it would make a great gift for any baby showers or children's birthdays you're going to.
OBall Car
I picked this toy up on a whim during a trip to Target for Charlie and he really enjoys it.
The tires have little balls inside so they rattle and roll around, plus he can easily grasp it.
Stacking Rings
Y'all, these are so cheap. Seriously one of the most inexpensive things I've ever picked up for Charlie, but he loves them SO much!
These are great for his hand-eye-coordination, too.
Goodnight Tractor
Every single night before bed we read Charlie a book (usually it's Christopher that does the reading). Lately, the book of choice has been Goodnight Tractor and it's one of the few books that Charlie will sit stock-still and look at 100% while you're reading.
He loves to turn the pages of every book we read to him, but he seems to study these before turning them-it's so sweet!
Contigo Straw Cup
Charlie has several sippy cups, but I feel like they're always in the dishwasher, so we can never have enough.
I wanted to start buying some that would grow with him & this one definitely fits that bill.
It's a good sized cup, but Charlie holds it pretty easily, it doesn't spill, and is pretty durable. It's also super easy to clean!
Until next time. . .

To Charlie: A Letter To My One Year Old

My Sweet Charlie Man,
I absolutely cannot believe that we're already here-one full year of loving handsome, mischievous, hilarious, special, sweet you.
As I look at the picture below, just a few short days after we brought you into this world, I distinctly remember the exhaustion & the overwhelming feelings that were going through my mind & body when those beautiful photos were being snapped.
You were so worth every moment-you are worth every single moment.
You are so, so special to me & your Daddy.
Our first baby, our little boy.
We decided on you & prayed for you.
You are our biggest blessing.
You changed our whole worlds-rocked them, really. But in the best way.
Nothing is the same & although it took some getting used to, being with you is the best new normal.
You have given me some of the best moments in this past year; spending time on the farm as a family of three (plus Forrest, of course), seeing you learn to love Forrest, watching you see all things for the first time and the wonder with which you experience them.
I love the way you are so focused and determined.
When you want to learn something, you zero-in on it and keep at it until you've gotten it figured out.
I adore the mornings we spend together, when I go get you from your room and bring you into bed with me for a few minutes. Nursing you has given us a bond like no other.

We have had one full year of all of us learning this new way, of studying up on the best techniques for allll the baby things, of cheering you on at each new milestone, of seeing you succeed, of watching you grow and change each day, and most of all just loving you.
When you give those sweet, sloppy, open-mouth kisses or nuzzle your head up against my shoulder my heart both melts & bursts into a million pieces simultaneously.

Your Daddy & I have so many hopes and prayers for you in the future;
We pray that you continue being determined and that you're able to focus that in a direction that drives you in the direction of all of your goals, because you have the ability to go so far, sweet boy.
We pray that your heart stays just as kind and pure as it is today. You're so sweet, generous, and affectionate and I love your heart.
We pray that your bravery holds true. You are so fearless, sometimes it scares my Mama-heart, but I know that's just who you are and so I try to swallow that and take a note from you, that we can all take a few more chances.
But know that for all of our prayers and hopes for you, while we do have them, we will always be your biggest cheerleaders and your supporters.
We will be your teachers and your confidantes.
We will love you & always, always have your back.
We love you so much, Charlie Horse!
Happy first birthday!

Ten on Tuesday [No.60]

Some of the links below are affiliate links.
Thank you for using these in support of Southern & Style at no additional cost to you!
Y'all, I am on a roll with bringing my Ten on Tuesday posts back!
Honestly, I just really missed sharing with y'all and this is one of the simplest ways for me to actually put together a post that doesn't require lots of computer work (a v-hard thing to do with a busy almost  one year old!)
So let's jump into this week's roundup...
ONE
We had Charlie's one year pictures done this past week & I just need to know, do any other Mama's get stressed out about pictures like I do?
I guess it's not stress, it's more just anxiety.
You want the pictures to turn out well not only because you're spending time & money on them, but because you only have one opportunity to capture this moment in your little one's life-no pressure, right?!
Well, our photographer that we've been using lately, Tori with Little E Photography, did a wonderful job as always-even though Charlie is such a tough customer and proceeded to bawl when presented with his smash cake 😂
She salvaged the shoot and I cannot wait to see and share the finished product!
TWO
I just have to share this picture from this past Sunday afternoon.
We love to grill out over the weekend and we enjoy just sitting down on the patio, hanging out as a family.
On Sunday it was pretty warm so I decided to pull out the kiddie pool for Charlie & Forrest decided to take a dip too. They truly are the best of friends & I love watching them together!
THREE
We had a slight reprieve in the weather here in Alabama with almost (dare I say?) Fall-like temps and the only word I can think to describe it is just glorious!
We absolutely take advantage of the cooler temps any time we get them & we enjoyed riding around the pasture spotting calves after bottle-feeding Minnie Pearl and then we came home and played in the yard before bath time.
These two are just the best of friends!
My whole heart!
FOUR
So Carter's is running a 50% off sale right now & I needed to pick up Charlie a few things for Fall/Winter, so I looked through their selection since they always have good staples and good pajamas and did a little shopping & I wanted to share the pieces I bought him!
Tiger Pajamas (I still love him in footies and they have the sizes we need!)
Long Sleeve Navy Pocket Tee (I love Carter's shirts for Charlie & I think this pocket tee would be so adorable with a masculine monogram on the pocket!)
Three-Pack of Dress Socks (I know I'll have to buy more socks for the winter, but I got a good deal on this 3 pack & I like the navy, gray, and khaki colors)
Football Long-Sleeve Shirt (Charlie had this in a onesie last year & I loved it so much that I picked it up in the shirt version)
Halloween Two-Piece Pajamas (I love Charlie in seasonal clothes & pjs and these are an inexpensive option that are so cute!)
FIVE
I always look forward to seeing what Essie's seasonal collections are going to look like & this Fall 2019 collection is no different-I love the shades and the names!
My personal favorites are the far left, Home Grown which is a pretty warm peachy shade & Rust Worthy (second from the right), a beautiful rusty copper shimmer shade.
SIX
If you're a parent (or you frequent Target/their website/get their emails every single day/etc.) then you've probably already heard of their carseat trade-in event, but it's happening through September 13th!
All you have to do is bring in your old carseat (including booster seats, infant seats, carseat bases, and even expired or damaged seats) and they will give you a 20% off coupon to use on a new carseat, stroller, or select baby gear.
SEVEN
I don't really buy into the whole meal-kit services usually, but we got a really good Hello Fresh coupon in the mail and I decided to try it out this week...well, they sent the wrong box!
So, while they did credit the money back to my account I did still have the food so I thought we'd try these recipes out and this one, Sweet-as-Honey Chicken turned out SO yummy!
I wouldn't recommend getting it from Hello Fresh because this is easily a meal you could recreate at home & do it on a budget, but the way the chicken is cooked is something to take note of and I'll definitely save the recipe card to try it again sometime.
EIGHT
Does anyone else agree that weekends are just the best?!
We still have normal farm chores to do of course (Minnie Pearl still needs her bottles!), but we try to be a little more low-key and just enjoy our little family.
Charlie likes to crawl up on his daddy and watch a little RFDTV before heading to the farm to get some excavator work done!
NINE
After going almost a full year without reading anything other than a magazine, I have finally been bitten by the reading bug again and have been devouring books over the past month.
I'm on my fourth book from August/September and can't wait to do a roundup for y'all soon-but until then, check out my current read and pick it up for yourself if you enjoy a little mystery with a strong female character!
TEN
I had to save these pictures for last because this is so exciting!
If you've read my monthly update posts for Charlie or my Empties posts then you will probably have noticed how much I love Aveeno products, especially the Aveeno baby products since Charlie had such sensitive skin when we first brought him home.
They were so kind to reach out & show us some love by sending a big package of goodies that we can't wait to dig into!
These lavender products will be perfect for Charlie's nighttime routine!
We love the Aveeno baby shampoo & I'm thrilled to get to test out their lotion and body wash-it will be awesome as the air starts to dry out and my skin dries out with it.
These are a must-have for our diaper bag; they're wonderful for those of you doing baby-led-weaning  too because you know how messy baby's can get while you're having lunch at a restaurant!
We are always outside in our family, so you know we have to be dutiful in covering ourselves & especially Charlie in sunscreen to protect our skin.
They actually sent a full size of the bottle of Aveeno Baby Sunscreen, which I shared with my sister since she's about to have a new baby in her house to protect, but y'all already know I love that product for Charlie and am excited to test out the stick.
My skin has been doing so much better, but after being out in the heat & sweating over the weekend it was a bit irritated. I'm thinking these gentle products, full of hydration will really help me recover.
And more products for Mama!
I love overnight products because all the require you to do is sleep, which is obviously a favorite of mine. I'm also really excited to test out their serum+primer because when skincare companies delve into makeup products, that is always interesting to me.

Wow, that was a big Tuesday roundup!
Let me know below what is going on with y'all-I'm dying to find out!
Until next time. . .
xoxo,
