Ten on Tuesday [No.40]

Some of the links below are affiliate links.
Thank you for supporting Southern & Style by using these links at no additional cost to you!
Y'all.
It's freezing.
That's basically me right now.
They canceled school's today in pretty much all of Alabama because there's supposed to be snow-we'll see if anything actually happens!
Until then, let's dig into what's been going on in my life recently-& since I didn't take a lot of pictures within the past week, this is a lot of things I've been reading around the internet, recipes I want to try, shows I've been watching, etc. :)

ONE
Does this time of year get anyone else down in the dumps?
I've been feeling super uninspired and just not really wanting to do anything beyond the basics lately & that's just so crummy to me-I want to want to do all the things!
I think a big part of taking back that part of me is going to start with self-care. . . maybe with painting my nails one of these pretty winter shades?

TWO
Let's talk about entertainment; specifically shows that I've been watching & ones that I'm excited about. . .
-911: I started watching this on Hulu last week & I really enjoyed the pilot episode! It's fast-paced and I enjoy shows that keep my blood pumping. Plus, it doesn't hurt that Connie Britton is in it.
-Harlots: I loved the first season of this show on Netflix & was worried they wouldn't do a season 2, but I just found out that it was renewed for season 2 which will be out sometime this year!
It's a little (okay, a lot) raunchy, but it's so good.
-The Handmaid's Tale: This is another Hulu exclusive that had an amazing first season & was almost immediately renewed it for season 2, which comes out in April & I'm so excited!
-When Calls the Heart: On a totally different note, I love watching WCTH on Netflix & recently got all caught up so I can watch the new season on Hallmark channel. It's such a good, cheesy show that gives my heart all the feelings.
-Jane the Virgin: I was in need for a new show to binge watch since I was all caught up on all of my other shows, so I took Annaliese's advice (aka Southern Belle in Training) and tried out Jane the Virgin. Y'all-it's everything I could ever want in a show. There's comedy, there's drama, there's mystery. I love it so far!

THREE
Is anyone else's Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale order still processing?!
I'm trying to be patient, because I can't even really wear what I ordered until it warms up-but gosh darn it, I'm ready for my dress to be here!

FOUR
I'm counting down the days until the 2018 Winter Olympics start!
Until then, I'll just read articles like this one from Good Housekeeping & learning the rules for all the different winter sports.

FIVE
If you're a fan of the super popular Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, are you going to try out the new Tarte Shape Tape Foundation?
I've heard such good things about both, I feel like I really need to test them out!

SIX
Y'all.
How is Kate Middleton so perfect?
Her style is so on point, even while she's pregnant!

SEVEN
Any nosey readers out there?
This past weekend, my post was all about what makeup products I use and I went all out & shared most of my collection with y'all. Go leave me a comment on that post telling me what product you use most often!

I also updated a favorite recipe post & re-shared it with y'all. . .it's perfect for a cozy supper any night of the week!

EIGHT
Apparently "Pub-Subs" were recently voted best sandwich down South; I'm in pretty much full agreement-there's just something so yummy about a house-made sandwich from Publix!

NINE
Mardi Gras will be here before you know it!
Here's a roundup of 32 New Orleans classics for you to prepare for your at-home Mardi Gras celebration...don't forget the King Cake!

TEN
My friend, Julie who blogs over at Less Than Perfect Life of Bliss, recently shared a house tour of her aunt and uncle's stunning rustic lake house and I'm pretty much ready to move right on in!

Well, that's pretty much it for what I've been reading/watching/looking at/etc. lately. . .
Let me know below what shows or movies you've been binging lately!

Until next time. . .

What's in My Makeup Bag?

If you're like me, you're probably two things; really into makeup & really nosey 🙈😂
I love sneaking a peek into people's lives with Day-in-the-Life posts or watching Morning/Night Routine videos on YouTube, it's just so interesting to me.

So the other day, I shared this instagram photo showing some new products I've been trying out & asked if y'all would rather me just talk about some of the new things I've been testing or whether you'd like to see a full-on What's in my Makeup Bag post & pretty much everyone that answered wanted to see the whole thing!

So below I'm showing you what all I keep in my everyday makeup bag (plus a few things that I use daily or almost daily). This is a lot of makeup, I don't use every single one of these products every single day, but I keep them there so they're easily accessible.
Actually, with the exception of a few other palettes & my giant collection of lip products, this is about 90% of the makeup I own, so I think I'm doing pretty well!

Some of the links below are affiliate links-thank you for using these & helping to support Southern & Style at no additional cost to you!

I picked up this exact size bag at a Plato's Closet back when I was in high school and it has held up so well over the years. It's large enough to fit all of my essentials & more, plus it has a plastic lining which makes it super easy to wipe clean.
I'm always willing to test out new primers from the drugstore because I'm always looking for the magical combination-inexpensive & works well. This primer is just okay. It's not the best, it's not the worst.
For as much as the ELF primer is just okay, the Smashbox primer is amazing.
I got a sample of this primer & absolutely fell in love. It holds onto makeup like no other, but doesn't clog my pores; the only downside is that it's pretty pricey.
I've tried out tons of foundations from the drugstore & this is the one that I keep coming back to.
It lasts all day on my skin, doesn't clog my pores, & comes in at under $10. A little goes a long way with it too, so it lasts forever. If there's ever a day that I need my makeup to last from morning until night, this is the one I wear.
I don't make it a habit to buy high-end makeup products, I just don't have the budget for it. But I picked up this foundation at TJ Maxx and was willing to give it a shot & just hoped I didn't fall in love.
While I really like the way the foundation lays on my skin, it doesn't last as long as the Revlon foundation so I won't feel bad about not repurchasing when it's gone. But it is an amazing light-coverage foundation.
This is another just so-so foundation. It's light coverage, so I wear it often when I'm just running errands or going out for a few hours but it's definitely not an all-day foundation.
This foundation also has a pretty distinct perfume-smell that some may find off-putting.
I am always hunting down great drugstore products & I feel like this is one of those really good hidden gems. This is $5 & works so well on me. It brightens my under-eye area & covers dark circles or blemishes. I also appreciate that it creases less than most other concealers.
My all-time favorite translucent powder is from Be a Bombshell, but since it's so hard to find (even online), I've decided to test out a drugstore find. It's not as good as the BAB powder, but it does help set my under eye and keep it from creasing. However, I have stopped baking as often so it's not my most used powder in my kit.
This is a colored loose powder that, when doing a full-face of makeup, I use to set my entire face.
It helps mattify my skin, which tends to lean oily.
The packaging on this is tend to breaking though, which makes me not want to buy it again...but for under $7, you can't complain too much.
I received this from Influenster a while back and used it a little here & there, but lately I've been using it a lot more. On the day-to-day, I don't often wear any makeup, so when I do I wear a very light coverage, natural look. I add one of my two lighter coverage foundations & then top it with this powder, it's the perfect long lasting but still fresh face.
In my first Sephora Play! box, I got to test out these Cover FX drops.
At first I was a little underwhelmed with them, but then I mixed them in with my foundation (the Revlon one) and realized how beautifully glow-y & dewey it made my skin look all night long.
12) Pop Beauty Bronzer in Sunkissed
This bronzer came in an Ipsy bag & I have hit major pan on it, however I don't know if Pop Beauty is no longer around or if I just can't find it, but it doesn't seem to be online anymore.
The reason why I love this bronzer is because it's so similar to my favorite bronzer from Nars, because they have the same shade that is great for lightly contouring. So since I can't actually recommend the Pop bronzer to you-go buy this one from Nars for the same feel!
This blush is the perfect pink shade for my pale skin & I love how long it lasts.
I just pop it onto the apples of my cheeks any day I wear makeup and it brightens up my face easily.
When I first started to "get into" makeup, I used #15 on this list as my eyeshadow base & there's nothing wrong with that.
But one day I was at Nordstrom Rack & stumbled upon this Urban Decay product & decided I would just test it out since it was discounted.
Y'all, any day that I'm doing a real eyeshadow look-I always use this! It holds onto shadow so well, cancels out any discoloring on my eyelids, and keeps creasing to a minimum.
So in the "beauty community" everyone always talks about using Painterly from MAC as their eyeshadow base. Well, when I was in college I didn't want to spend the $$$ on MAC, so I bought Maybelline's cream shadow version.
Barely Branded is a great just base shade that I still use when I'm just doing my daily eyeshadow.
These little pots are less than $10 & last forever (as long as you make sure to tighten the lid-if not, it'll dry out!)
Here's the number one reason why I don't get Ipsy anymore...you can't find their products easily to repurchase!
I have two of these cream eyeshadow pots, so I don't think I'll ever run out but this is one that I always want to recommend to people, but no one can find it (or not easily).
This is an awesome one-and-done cream shadow, if you're having a rushed morning just swipe this across your lids & it looks great and lasts a long time. If you have more time, use it as a base for a beautiful neutral/copper look.
17) Pixi By Petra Duo in Apricot Glow
I got this duo in a Target Beauty Box & it was my first foray into Pixie's eye shadows. I was honestly pleasantly surprised by this duo-it's a great easy eye look with a dark crease color & a nice highlight shade as well. I can't find the duo online, but this six-pan palette has the two colors from the duo & just looks like an all-around nice neutral palette for $12.
When I did a big cleanout of my makeup last year I got rid of most of my duos and singles of eyeshadow. I just have several palettes I prefer...but I did keep this single.
It's a stunningly pigmented copper shade that I find myself reaching for time & time again. It's definitely worth checking out if you love copper shadows like I do.
I'm going to be really honest with y'all.
I have three eyeliners in my makeup bag, but I rarely line my eyes anymore.
If I was going to use a black liquid eyeliner, this is the one I would pick because it truly is easy to use & perfect for a night-time look.
When I wore eyeliner every single day, this is the one I used because it went on so smoothly & didn't smear easily.
If I get a wild hair to use an eyeliner like this on my waterline, I reach for my define-a-line & I love that it's affordable.
I almost de-cluttered this liner, but then I thought it might be fun to have at least one colored eyeliner in my collection. This one isn't too out there, the dark emerald green does look really pretty with brown eyes though (especially with copper colored eyeshadow too!)
I've used many different eyebrow pencils in my lifetime (I've been obsessed with #EyebrowsOnFleek for a while). This one is really good if you like a thicker pencil, I just wish it had a spoolie on the end instead of a little brush!
I was sent this from Influenster and at first, I wasn't a fan and almost didn't keep it. However, it gives a lot of dimension and texture to my brows. I only use it when I'm doing a full-face though, because it does require an extra step that I don't want to do every day!
This is a great clear brow gel that I use almost daily, even if I'm not doing anything else to my brows I will swipe this through them just to hold them in place. It keeps them tidy without making them crunchy (I can't stand that!)
This is another brow product that I use when I have a little more time to spend, I prefer pencils when I'm in a hurry.
It looks super natural in my brows & the taupe shade matches my real brow color very well.
This is an awesome every day colored balm from the drugstore!
It is a little more pricey than most drugstore items (that's Pixie for you), but when I was teaching I would keep this in my desk drawer and swipe it on when I needed a little color and moisture.
Pretty Pink is the perfect pink/nude shade for my skin tone as well.
I don't like holding onto too many lip liners, so I choose to keep a very neutral pink on hand that will match a ton of my lipsticks. This one from Rimmel is a great shade that works for many lip shades & it goes on really creamy without running out of my lip line.
This is the ultimate lipliner to keep on hand for all shades that don't match the one above because this one is transparent but still keeps the shades from running outside of my lip line, which can be difficult with certain colors.
I've always been a fan of Mary Kay products (I just wish they were more accessible to purchase!) and this color is a great pinky nude that goes on really well. I like a lipstick for every day that doesn't transfer a ton and can be applied without looking in a mirror and this one wins on both fronts.
When I need a lipstick that stains my lips & lasts all day (aka when I don't have time to reapply) this is the lipstick that I go to.
It's a beautiful dark berry shade and as the day goes on it wears so nicely, leaving the perfect kiss of wine-color on your lips.
I don't keep too many glosses on hand (can you tell I'm really trying to not hoard a lot of makeup?) but this one is great because it looks great on it's own as a creamy brown/nude shade. But in addition to that, it also looks good over lipsticks or stains and takes on their color.
G) Nars Pirates of the Caribbean Cheek Palette
This was a limited edition cheek palette & my first highlight palette that I ever purchased.
I love the variety of the highlight shades as well as the blush/bronzer colors included too. If you can find this on sale somewhere or if it becomes available again, I highly recommend because the powders are just so creamy and long lasting.
This is a step that I don't necessarily do every day, but if I'm wearing a mascara that is prone to flaking or I just know I'm going to be wearing my makeup all day long then I will add this step into my routine because I have found that it keeps my mascara on and without flaking!
This is an excellent every-day mascara. It's not clumpy, but it's also not overly volumizing either.
It gives a nice black-ness to your lashes and adds a little bit of length. It also doesn't leave my lashes super crunchy either, which I can't stand for daily wear.
First of all, this mascara has a super scary looking wand. However, it gives really great length because of this weird wand. It has a little ball on the end that you can use to get really close into the corner of your eye & it also helps tease out clumps. This is my favorite current every-day mascara.
I decided to take the plunge & try out this mascara during a Too Faced sale & I wasn't disappointed.
It adds SO much volume & length. It is a little clumpy, but I kind of like that look when I'm wearing a full face of makeup.
This is hands-down the best thing on the entire list that I've shared today. I didn't rush to pick up this palette, but when I saw so many people review it & it actually reviewed well. So, I picked it up (it's less than $40) and fell head over heels in love with it.
All of the shadows are so creamy and intense, I do wear the metallics wet, but that doesn't take too much effort and really makes them even more punchy!
This isn't something that I would've paid full price for, but once again I snagged this one at TJ Maxx and I really like it for the price I paid.
I pretty much only use 3, maybe 4 of the shades but that's okay because the ones I do use are really nice. I like the top middle shade (lyric) for my under-eye because it helps cancel out my dark under-eye.
I'll be honest, before this palette I had never heard of Grave Yard Girl on YouTube and I still don't watch her. I picked this palette up on sale on Tarte's website because I loved how it was a full-face palette and I love the neutral shades. Plus y'all...this palette smells SO good. Pick it up, for sure!

Well...that's it y'all-all 493243 things that I keep "in" my makeup bag!
I hope y'all enjoyed this little roundup/review and learned a few things about how I like to do my makeup and what products I think are worth it and maybe which ones aren't.

Let me know below what products you use on the daily!

Until next time. . .

Smothered Pork Chops & Green Beans

Y'all know how I feel about my slow cooker.
I kind of have an obsession-especially around this time of year.
There's just something about coming home to the smell of supper already cooked and digging into a plate full of yummy, delicious food that you haven't had to slave over.
It's a busy person's dream, I'll tell you that much.

Today I'm sharing with you two of my favorite things to stick in my crock pots (yes, I have two-don't judge)
I love smothered pork chops and on the side I do crock pot green beans, then when I get home I stick some rolls in the toaster oven-easy as that!
Some of the links below are affiliate links; thank you for supporting Southern & Style by using these links at no additional cost to you!

Smothered Pork Chops

What You Need:
*Olive Oil Non-Stick Spray
*Campbells Cream of Chicken Soup
*Lipton Beefy Onion dry soup mix
*Brown Gravy mix
*Salt
*Black Pepper
*Thick cut pork chops

The crock pot that I use for my pork chops is a 6 quart crock pot; it's great for larger meals like these pork chops, roasts, soups/stews, etc.
Directions:
-Spray your crock pot with the non-stick spray
-Place pork chops in the bottom
-Season with salt & pepper
-Put the cream of chicken soup mix, dry soup mix, and brown gravy mix on top
-Mix the top mixture together with a whisk or spoon
-Cook on low for 4-5 hours

When it's done it should be falling apart and the gravy should be brown, thick, and yummy!
Crock Pot Green Beans
What You Need:
*Frozen Green Beans (we put up ours from our garden) Thawed Out
*Black Pepper
*Salt
*Olive Oil Non-Stick Spray
*Chicken Broth
*Ham Seasoning
*Bacon Grease (not pictured)

The crock pot I use for these green beans is a 4.5 quart, it's perfect for smaller meals (especially since it's just us two most of the time! It's also excellent to use for dips and appetizers for parties, or side dishes.

Directions:

-Spray crock pot with non-stick spray
-Place thawed green beans inside
-Season with ham seasoning, black pepper, and salt
-Cover with chicken broth
-Add in a teaspoon of bacon grease

Cook this on low for 4-5 hours and your beans will be tender and flavorful!

On this night I wanted supper to be extra special so I cooked up some biscuits while I was making homemade mashed potatoes.

This meal is seriously so good & worth a try for one of your busy weeknight dinners!

Until next time . . .

Ten on Tuesday [No.39]

Y'all-can you believe it's 2018?!
I'm still writing 2017 on everything (which I'll probably be doing at least until February, but whatever) so it doesn't seem like it's actually real yet, but it really is-time is just flying!

I took a longer than expected break, skipping last Tuesday because I was just enjoying some time with my sweet husband & getting things refreshed from the holidays around our home.
But I'll tell you all about that in the 1-10!

ONE
Did anyone else do the #2017BestNine?
It was kind of fun to look back & see what my most popular posts were-I see that y'all really enjoyed my posts from Nashville & I like that too; it just gives me a reason to go back!
And I'll probably never stop sharing my wedding photos 😉

TWO
It's the prettiest shade, especially for the upcoming Spring & I've got all the heart eyes for this baking dish.

THREE
If you read my January goals you'll know that I have fitness on my mind with the new elliptical that we bought. I've been using it a couple of days a week & it's such a good workout.
I love that I don't have to leave my house to go to the gym anymore & I can just watch something on my iPad. The view isn't much (it looks out onto the bushes in front of my front porch 🙈) but it's fine with me as long as I don't have to get out in the cold to exercise anymore.

FOUR
Since it's been so cold, I've been having to feed my elderly horse, Wrangler (who isn't in this picture-he was eating 😂) but I've been spending a lot of time with these guys while I'm outside and they just make the prettiest pictures.

FIVE
We had to postpone our family Christmas party because of a freak snow storm that gave Alabama ten inches of snow a few weeks ago, so we ended up having it the Thursday after Christmas-but it was still so much fun to get together and celebrate with everyone.
My niece, Lola loves Forrest-they're so sweet together!

Of course we had to take a couple of family pictures on our front porch!
And we enjoyed my dad's gas fire pit, too.
It was perfect for roasting marshmallows over-my favorite dessert of all time.

SIX
It seems like lately I'm always cold (it probably has something to do with the fact that the temperature in Alabama right now is hovering around literally freezing).
I feel like this zip hoodie is the answer to all my problems & prayers, plus that color is beautiful.
It just looks so chic & cozy all at the same time.

SEVEN
How did y'all spend your New Years Eve/New Years Day?
For NYE, we had our friends & their little girl over for dinner and we just hung out and had a good time talking and laughing.
Then Saturday morning I lounged in my super stylish sweatpants (aka Chris' sweats) and my socks and watched the Rose Parade until it was time to head to Chris' parents for the traditional NYD meal of greens, pork, cornbread, and black-eyed peas.
Do y'all eat that on NYD?

EIGHT
Have y'all ever heard of MoviePass before?
Someone recommended it as a gift on a gift guide that I read before Christmas & I thought it was the coolest concept.
Basically, you buy this card for $10 per month & you can use it to see as many movies as you want, if your movie theater participates (and even my small-town theatre does, so yours probably does too!)
I remember going to the movies a lot in high school, so this would've definitely paid for itself pretty quickly.
I'm not sponsored by them or affiliated with them, I just thought it was awesome & would save you lots of money if you went to the movies often!

NINE
I got this cute little letter board for Christmas & it's honestly one of my favorite things I've probably ever gotten.
I love changing out the quotes for different occasions (my first quote was "Some people are worth melting for" from Frozen, so I could display it at our late Christmas party) and then my newest one is in honor of the new adventures in the New Year!

TEN
Southern Living shared four home decor trends that are on their way out...do you agree with any of these? I'm so glad that I don't stick to what's trendy, I just stick to what looks good to me.

Until next time. . .

January Goals [2018]

Although it still doesn't seem real, 2018 really is here to stay.
I feel like January doesn't really get a lot of love-no major holidays, blah weather, and a lot of people still have a holiday hangover.
But January is also a new beginning and a fresh start, it's the perfect time for goals!
I don't really do resolutions or yearly goals, I just find them too hard to keep-so I'll stick to my monthly goals.

Let's look at December's goals & see how I did. . .
Get the House in Shape for our Christmas Party
Check! I actually did this twice because the first time I had cleaned everything up & gotten ready to host the party, we had a snow weekend in Alabama.
We ended up doing it the last Thursday in December and had a blast...and my house was really clean!

Finish my Current Book
This is another checkmark too, I finished that book & started a new one (I'm halfway done!) so I should be having a new book review up soon.

Try Out my New Elliptical
I wanted to use my elliptical at least twice a week & that just didn't happen.
Between holiday get-togethers and just the busyness of the season, I only worked out a few times.

Reach 1,000 on Instagram
This is one goal I was actually able to accomplish well before the new year!
I am currently at about 1,030 and I'm so glad to be growing one of my favorite platforms.
If you'd like to follow along, you can find me @ SouthernAndStyle.

For January's Goals. . .

Redecorate Our Home
I'm not planning a major reno or anything, but after I took down all of our Christmas decor, I basically just left our house blank. It's been sort of refreshing, but now I'm ready to get back out some of my decor pieces & put out some new things I've purchased as well.

Use my Elliptical Twice Per Week
'Tis the season for fitness motivation, am I right?
I don't want to do anything crazy, but I would love to put in at least two elliptical workouts per week-I think it would make me feel a lot better.

Reach 1,100 on Instagram
It's a small increase for this months goal, but I love that my Insta following is very organic and is people that actually want to interact and enjoy following me.
I'm all for slow & steady as long as it's still growth.

Have a Fun Night Out with my Biggest Big Sister
We have a night planned out in Atlanta and I'm so excited about it-I'll share more about it after the fact with y'all.

Create a "Day-in-the-Life" Blog Post
I've wanted to do this one for a long time, but always forget halfway through the day or I don't do anything interesting.
No matter what, I want to do this because I was just thinking the other day how I wanted to remember this season in my life.

So those are my goals for the month of January, let me know below what one of your goals are for January or for 2018!

Until next time. . .
