Favorite Fall Drink: Spiked Caramel Apple Cider

Hey y'all!
Today I'm linking up with Sarah at Meet the Shaneyfelts & Emily from A Little Bit of Emily to kick off Fall with a link-up of Fall Favorites!
Also, expect to see Wednesday posts this month as I participate in their link-up and add a fun new post for the last Wednesday of the month.
Today we're talking about our favorite Fall drinks & while I love a good pumpkin spice latte as much the next basic girl, I'm taking today as an opportunity to share a new recipe with y'all that will warm you up if you're already facing cooler temperatures!
I give you; Spiked Caramel Apple Cider!
It's a super simple recipe that has all the best flavors that Fall has to offer, crisp apple, warm buttery caramel, and the spiciness of rum.
To start you add 1.5 ounces of spiced rum. . .
Then, add 0.5 ounces of butterscotch schnapps...
Then top with pressed apple juice or cider (we're huge fans of all the "Simply" juices in our house!), add ice and garnish with a slice of apple if you so choose!

Here is a printable copy of the recipe card if you're interested:
I hope y'all enjoyed this Wednesday post & a recipe for a change-I can't wait until next week when we share our favorite Fall fashion!
If you're interested in linking up; here are the three link-up prompts below:

Until next time. . .

Ten on Tuesday [No.23]

Some of the links below are affiliate links-thank you for supporting Southern & Style!
Hey y'all! Hope y'all are having a great first day to the work-week today, since yesterday was a holiday and hopefully a three day weekend for more of y'all!
Today I'm sharing so many of my favorite things-a new product that I'm obsessed with, some music I've been listening to on repeat, some clothes I bought (& that y'all will be seeing in outfit posts soon), and of course a decor sneak peek!
Let's jump in!

ONE
My first weekly fave and something I absolutely have to share is a new SPF that I've been testing out.
With the weather cooling down, I've been finding myself outside a lot more especially since I cut the grass at the farm and I have been enjoying more exercise lately as well. All of that being outside more frequently adds up to me needing more protection from the sun and my new favorite is from NeoStrata!
It's an oil-free daily SPF that actually is hydrating too, making it a great first step in your morning skincare regime.
I have combination skin that leans toward the more oily side during the summer, but this SPF is actually supposed to control and reduce the oiliness and y'all-that is a claim that has proved itself with me over the last month that I've been testing it out. And I don't know about y'all, but whether I'm out on the beach or lake, or just out on the farm I never want to be an oily mess either way.
Along with sun protection it also helps even out your skin tone and is supposed to improve skin firmness over time.
Some more product benefits:
-It provides broad spectrum UVA/UVA protection
-It's non-comedogenic (meaning that it won't block your pores)
-It's non acnegenic (it's less likely to cause breakouts!)
-It's fragrance free (for me, this means it's less likely to irritate my skin which is something that's so important with a daily SPF)
The application process is super simple too-just apply it to your face and neck (it's made for daily use so lather up!), make sure it's applied fifteen minutes before you head outside and then reapply every two hours for maximum protection.
This SPF is not water resistant, so make sure if you're sweating it up or swimming then you use a waterproof SPF.
This product is available on the NeoStrata website and while it's a higher priced item, it's worth it to me to protect my skin. I might skimp and choose a drug-store lipstick, but I don't want to skimp on the product that's protecting my skin from the sun!

TWO
There's something about September that makes me want to break out my "fall-music", typically country and mostly Luke Bryan.
I've been playing his Farm Tour playlist on Spotify on repeat, especially this song because it reminds me of my sweet farm life.
"Here's to the farmer that plants the fields in the spring that turned from green to that harvest honey, hold one up for the banker downtown that got him on his feet with handshake money, here's to the farmers wife that loves him every night"

I'm also really loving this 90's country song right about now. . .
"Hard times are real, there's dusty fields no matter where you go. And you may change your mind, cause weeds are high where corn don't grow."

THREE
If you shop at Target and haven't tried this side dish yet you need to go get it right now!
My husband & I tried it out just last week & we both gave it two thumbs up.
It's inexpensive, really easy to fix (it's a steaming bag), and so tasty.
We had ours with fish, but I think it would be amazing with veggies and grilled chicken as well.

FOUR
My mom and I went shopping after I had some dental work done last week & I made some awesome purchases if I do say so myself.
This tee describes my life perfectly.
My first pair of mesh-paneled leggings in this bomb Fall color
The perfect long sleeved tee for layering and wearing with leggings
(colors purchased-black & deep rose, but deep rose looks more rust colored in real life!)
Also picked up this lightweight sweatshirt from our local outdoors store & I'm obsessed with the oversized men's fit for leggings this Fall & Winter!

FIVE
Sunday was spent lazily and then that afternoon we headed to my favorite place; the farm.
There's no where better on Earth-I'm convinced.
Our calves (that are going to be shipped West in just a few more weeks!) are looking so fit and healthy, the air had a slight crisp Fall feel, and the light was perfect...basically, it was bliss.

SEVEN
If you haven't read my September Goals post then you wouldn't know that one of my goals is to exercise at least three days per week this month.
Forrest usually goes on my walks with me & thankfully since our neighborhood is so safe and he's such a well-behaved pupper I don't have to leash him unless I'm walking into town.
He enjoys seeking out the puddles and taking a dip while I'm either catching up to him or walking a little ahead & it's pretty much the funniest thing ever.
Labs definitely love the water!

EIGHT
This past week I pulled out my Fall decor and I couldn't resist doing a little bit of "in-between" decor on my hutch in our dining room.
In the future I really want to add these four salad plates to my Fall decor (1/2/3/4) but until then I'll use these bi-cenntienial plates from my Gran.

NINE
Since my phone case currently has palm leaves all over the back of it, I decided it was time to pick up a new one that was more season-neutral.
This is the one I picked, but I'm also loving this one because it reminds me of Kate Spade but way cheaper, this one reminds me of Draper James but once again-way cheaper, and this one because-unicorns.

September Goals

Hey y'all!
Can you believe that it's already September?!
I absolutely love this month because it's the beginning of Fall (even if Fall is still ninety degrees here in Alabama) and because this is the month I get to celebrate so many of my favorite people (my husband, nephew, and oldest sister all have birthdays this month!).

Let's see how I did on August's Goals:
-Get in 5 Days of Exercise Per Week
Most weeks I got 4 days of exercise in, minus last week where I only got 2. So I would call that a win-I'm definitely moving more than I was previously and I'm already feeling somewhat stronger and better.
-Get Back in the Saddle
I had every intention of doing this last Sunday, but it just didn't pan out so I'm going to add it to my September goals!
-Finish My Current Book & Read Another
I have been crushing my reading goals this month!
-Enjoy Our Trip to Nashville!
We had an awesome time in Nashville that you can read about in my Nashville Recap!
-Use What We Have Instead of Buying New
This was a total win for the month of August. I only threw out one thing-a package of cherries that turned out to be not exactly what I was hoping they would be.
We picked up very few groceries this month as well, we were very much so trying to shop our "stash" of frozen food!

September's Goals
-Exercise 3 Days Per Week
I'm going to be a little more realistic with myself and plan for a minimum of three days of exercise each week.
-Celebrate Chris' 31st birthday!
I'm hoping to at least have a little celebration at home, I can't wait to celebrate with him!
-Celebrate Trystan and Dexter's Birthdays!
I told you we were rich in birthdays this month!
-Work on Christmas Shopping
I've already purchased three Christmas gifts, now I just have to finish up the rest of my list! Ideally I would be done before December even gets here.
-Plan a Getaway for October
I wanted us to get away to the beach, but I just don't think that's going to happen this year but I am looking at maybe Mentone/Little River Canyon in North Alabama for a short little trip!
-Take Outfit Photos at Least Once
I need to get together with my mom and take at least one session of outfit photos (hopefully at least two posts worth!)

Well...let's see if I can do it!
Tell me below what your goals are. . .

Until next time. . .

Ten on Tuesday [No.22]

Hey y'all!
Happy Tuesday-I hope your week is off to a great start & that you're enjoying the end of August as much as I am.
Let's jump into this week's Ten. . .

ONE
Lately I've been absolutely loving taking walks a couple of days per week.
My goal for this month was five days each week, and while that might have been a little ambitious, I have been moving a lot more which was the main goal.
Just the other day I decided to take Forrest with me, he's a pretty good walking buddy.
We live in town, so I leashed him up & we headed down past my old high school (which is now an elementary school) and took Forrest for his first trip over the catwalk-which still kind of freaks me out to be honest.
Once we got closer to the house, I let Forrest off of his leash and he was so much happier!
He's great at walking on his leash, but if he had to choose he would just walk with me without the leash.

TWO
All of the reports coming out of Texas with Hurricane Harvey are just heart-breaking.
If you want to help, here is a list of how you can help!

THREE
If you missed last Saturday's post, it's a recap of our trip to Nashville and I share all the fun stuff we did while we were there!

FOUR
I can't believe I didn't make this #1, but have you checked out the Lilly Pulitzer After Party Sale yet?!
I've browsed around the website several times already (the sale lasts until Wednesday night!)
and purchased this dress in the print Hey Bay Bay! which is the only thing I was really looking for, but I'm sure I'll keep checking back to see what the restocks are until the end of the sale!

FIVE
Get excited for Fall because according to this article, the leaves are going to be beautiful this year! 🍂🍁

SIX
Since Target's carrying this new cookie...I know what I'll be snacking on!

SEVEN
If anyone has about 7 million dollars just laying around, I'd love to borrow it to purchase this gorgeous historic home in Savannah-that back porch is amazing!

EIGHT
Okay, call me Fall obsessed-but if you love traveling when the weather is just right in the Fall, check out this list of perfect mountain towns to visit-#1 is on my list!

NINE
We're having our yard worked on and our house painted in the next few weeks & I couldn't be more excited! I'm going to work with the guy that's doing it for us to pick out some new plants to put in and I've got my September gardening checklist all made out.

TEN
Since our house is kind of old, there is next to no storage-especially closets.
My husband has both of the closets in our master bedroom, so I've been using the small closet in our guest room...but y'all-it's just not big enough, since I grew up with a walk-in closet!
I did some re-arranging and one of the new additions is this clothing rack for my t-shirts and long-sleeve shirts.
I'm thinking about doing a post about organizing small spaces, so if you'd like to see something like that please let me know!

Well, that's all for this week-check back with me on Saturday for a fun post!

Until next time. . .

Nashville Recap

Hey y'all!
I mentioned in this weeks Ten on Tuesday that today was going to be a recap of our short Nashville trip & I can't wait to share it with y'all.

This trip was much shorter than our last (and I covered Nashville in detail in my Nashville Travel Guide) and we were there for one specific reason; to go to the PBR (Professional Bull Riding) for my husband's early birthday.
We left Friday around lunch and while it should only take us about four-five hours to reach Nashville, we had to battle horrible traffic in Birmingham due to road work and then I made Chris take a detour to Huntsville (terrible idea-I hate driving in Huntsville!)
But the traffic & the long hours were worth it when I finally got to experience the Southern Living Store-y'all it is so good.
I didn't bring anything home with me this time, but I had my eye on these Alabama stamped wine glasses-they were so beautiful!
When we arrived in Nashville it was after 7 o'clock, so we checked into our hotel room, freshened up,  and called our Lyft driver.
At this point in our trip, I made a major fail.
I left my ID in our hotel room.
I don't know if y'all know this, but if you're going to Broadway then you have to have your ID to get in anywhere, so I realized I forgot it as soon as we got to Broadway so we had to call another Lyft driver to carry us to our room and then back to Broadway.

Thankfully, he was a super nice guy who helped me feel not as terrible as I did & he also recommended an amazing taco place just off Broadway; Bakersfield Tacos-it was so good (& really dimly lit in there) so I didn't get to take any pics!
That night we just hopped in and out of the bars listening to some really good live music-live music on Broadway is one of my all-time faves!

The next morning we woke up, had breakfast at our hotel, and then headed down to Franklin for the day to visit Carnton Plantation.
I read about Carnton in the book, As Southern As It Gets, and it was honestly one of the best historic sites I've ever visited (& being a history buff-I've visited a lot!)
The home itself was beautiful and was on beautiful grounds (just outside of the house is where the Battle of Franklin was fought, that battle being one of the most bloody & brutal battles of the Civil War).
Carnton was used as a field hospital for the Battle of Franklin and the stories that have survived the test of time are incredible.
Our incredibly intelligent guide knew answers to every question and was able to share much insight on not only the house and property, but the family, and the war as a whole.
There was no photography allowed inside the home, but had their been I would've taken a shot of the floors in one of the upper bedrooms.
It was evidently used as an operating room by the military surgeons and the wooden floors were still bloodstained-it was so moving.
This shot was inside one of the slave cabins still preserved on the property.

The gardens at Carnton were beautiful.
They have two witness trees still on the property (trees that "witnessed" the action that occurred on the property-in this case the Battle of Franklin).

Saturday after we left Carnton we grabbed lunch on our way back to the hotel room, took a nap once we got there (Nashville will wear a girl out, y'all) and then around 4 o'clock we started getting ready & headed into town.

We hung out around town, grabbed an appetizer at The Merchant, and then headed down to the Bridgestone.
The arena was incredible, one of the best venues I've ever been to!
Y'all-there was a sweet Bridgestone employee who was trying to take our picture, he was struggling, so we settled for a selfie at our seats 😉

We had awesome seats, super close to the chutes and next to all the action.
I'll say this about the PBR (Professional Bull Riding, if you didn't know), they know how to put on a show.
It was seriously amazing, from the special effects at the beginning all the way to how they set up the bracket of how the riders ride-it was a great event!

After the event ended, we headed down to our favorite bar-the George Jones & had a huge plate of brisket fries and listened to some live music before calling our Lyft driver and heading back to the room.

We were supposed to stay until Monday afternoon (so we could be in the solar eclipse's path of totality) but farm-work called so we packed up Sunday morning, stopped at Cracker Barrel and made it home in a little over four hours.

Even though this was a short trip, it was still a good one-we packed in all the fun we could!
Have you ever visited Nashville? Let me know below what your favorite part of that city is!

Until next time. . .
